Dr. Brad Venghaus is now an approved Texas Compassionate Use Program prescribing physician for medical marijuana.

Dr. Venghaus uses the Texas Compassionate Use Program to help those who have multiple chronic conditions that fit into Texas definition of qualifying individuals. 

 

The Compassionate Use Program at Thrive Medical Clinic is statutorily limited to patients in Texas with:

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  • Cancer
  • Incurable neurodegenerative disease
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Spasticity

Conditions that we currently do not treat at Thrive Medical Clinic with medical marijuana:

  • Autism
  • Epilepsy
  • Seizure disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

Texas Occupations Code Sec. 169.001 defines "Low-THC Cannabis" as the plant Cannabis sativa L., and any part of that plant or any compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, preparation, resin, or oil of that plant that contains not more than 1.0 percent by weight of tetrahydrocannabinols.

 

The Texas Department of State Health Services has designated the applicable neurodegenerative diseases by rule. For a brief list of conditons please see below. For the entire list defined by the state of Texas please see 25 Tex. Admin. Code 1, §1.61.

  • Alzheimer's disease
  • Huntington's disease
  • Vascular dementia
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Spinal muscular atrophy
  • Lewy body dementia
  • Multiple system atrophy

Please note, an appointment can be booked online but no medical marijuana will be prescribed at the first appointment until we can ensure that all criteria is met before any prescription can be considered.
